On Sunday this desk reported that the treasury of the “ico-20” token sale trading as LEAF had been swept on day two of an advertised 9,666-block window, 1.335 BTC leaving in seven transactions to three addresses that had never transacted before. On Monday night, one o
15/09/2026SGX Update: US Institutions Got a CFTC-Recognised Bitcoin Perpetual Venue Last Week — It Carried $19 Million of Open Interest, at End-August — 0.24% of a Single Crypto-Native Book on Monday — and on the Exchange’s Own Onboarding Timeline No US Client Can Use It for Wednesday’s Fed
SGX won CFTC authorisation under Regulation 48.10 on 10 September to open its bitcoin and ether perpetual futures to US institutions. The contracts carried $19 million of open interest at end-August — 0.2358% of the Binance BTCUSDT perpetual book alone, which this desk measured at $8,057.03 million at 00:00 UTC on 14 September. SGX’s entire cumulative volume since November 2025 is 73.5% of one Binance day. And onboarding takes two to four weeks through clearing members SGX said it was still preparing — so no US client can use it for Wednesday’s FOMC.
14/09/2026How to Read a Token-Sale Treasury — Six Checks That Tell You Whether a Sale Is Still Running or Has Already Been Cashed Out, Scored on a Live Bitcoin Sale That Emptied Itself on Day Two — Field Guide #48
Six checks that separate a sale still running from one already cashed out: convert the window to blocks, list every spend rather than every transaction, age the destination addresses, read the split and follow the next hop, divide fees by delivery, and count the funders two ways. Scored throughout on a live Bitcoin L1 sale that emptied its treasury 201 blocks into an advertised 9,666-block window — and on what those numbers do and do not permit you to say.
14/09/2026Markers Monday: Washington Votes Twice in 48 Hours — Senate Cloture Tuesday, Fed Wednesday — and Bitcoin Goes In With Perpetual Funding 195 Basis Points Above the September Futures Curve, a 300 Basis Point Swing in One Session; T1 Grades a Fail
Two Washington votes in 48 hours — Senate cloture on the CLARITY Act at 14:15 ET Tuesday needing 60, and the FOMC at 14:00 ET Wednesday with the range at 3.50–3.75%. Bitcoin closed Sunday at $76,808.69, down 0.596%. Perpetual funding crossed above the September basis: 7.837% against 5.885%, a 195bp gap where Sunday had 105bp the other way. Open interest rebuilt 1,597.723 coins, top-trader positioning hit a 30-day high, and Fear & Greed fell two sessions. T1 grades a fail at 3,400 against 3,500.
14/09/2026The Bitcoin Token Sale That Paid the Liquid Whitehats in Every Single Mint Emptied Its Own Treasury on Day Two — 1.335 BTC Swept in Seven Transactions Across Two Blocks to Three Addresses With No Prior History
The LEAF / ico-20 sale raised 1.37964517 BTC from 875 addresses in thirty-one hours, then emptied its treasury on Sunday 13 September in seven transactions across two blocks — 133,500,000 satoshis to three addresses whose first-ever transaction was the sweep itself, split 60,500,000 / 60,500,000 / 12,500,000. Two forwarded 60,000,000 each within two hours and forty minutes; one carried an ico-20 instruction to transfer 100,000 LEAF. The advertised mint window had 9,465 of 9,666 blocks left to run. All 1,114 mints still pay 330 satoshis to the Liquid whitehat address.
14/09/2026Revolut Update: A Fake Government Data Request Sent From a Mailbox Inside a Real Government Domain Passed SPF, DKIM and DMARC — and Took Passports, Onboarding Selfies, IBANs and Full Bitcoin Transaction Histories. It Is the Second September Incident in Which Every Authentication Check Passed and the Sender Was Still Not Who They Claimed
Revolut has told customers that passports, onboarding selfies, IBANs, withdrawal records and full Bitcoin transaction histories were disclosed to an unauthorised third party after a fraudulent information request arrived from a mailbox created inside a real government agency’s domain and passed SPF, DKIM and DMARC. No keys, passwords, PINs or balances were described as taken and no funds have been reported moved. It is the second September incident — after approximately 347,000 Trezor subscribers on 9 September — in which every authentication check passed and the sender still was not who they claimed. The rule the desk now states in full: provenance is not authorisation.
13/09/2026How to Read a Flooded Bitcoin Address — Six Checks That Tell a Payment From a Message From a Protocol Marker, Why “1,426 Transactions” Can Mean Almost Nothing Happened, and the Vanity-Address Trap That Defeats Checking the First and Last Four Characters — Field Guide #47
The Liquid whitehats’ address went from 296 confirmed transactions to 1,426 in two days while its 598.5 BTC did not move a satoshi. Six checks separate what arrived into payments, messages and protocol markers: read value not counts, look for a repeated constant near the dust limit, decode every OP_RETURN and group them, follow the largest output to find who the transaction is really for, price the fees against the delivery, and compare addresses in full because a vanity generator defeats the first-and-last-four habit. Each check is scored on this weekend’s real data. Field Guide #47.
13/09/2026Markers Sunday: Core Inflation Missed by a Tenth, September Hike Odds Went From 70% to Nearly 90% in a Day — and Bitcoin Went Up. The 2-Year Confirmed the Hike at 4.63% and Graded O1 a Pass, the 10-Year Set a 2026 High of 4.96%, U1 and W1 Failed, and the Perpetual Open-Interest Bar Flipped Under X1 With Four Days to Go
August core CPI missed by a tenth at 0.3%, September rate-hike odds went from about 70% to nearly 90% in a day, and bitcoin rose anyway — $77,212.48 on Friday and $77,269.22 on Saturday in a $420 range, the fourth-narrowest of 255 sessions this year. The 2-year confirmed the hike at 4.63% and graded O1 a pass; N1 passed on 87% and 90% readings; U1 and W1 failed. Perpetual open interest fell 3,559 coins over the weekend and dropped below the X1 bar with four days to run, the ETFs’ September cushion halved to $307.3 million, and the difficulty projection jumped to +4.902%.
13/09/2026A Token Sale Has Written a 330-Satoshi Payment to the Liquid Whitehats’ Address Into Every One of Its 1,109 Mints — One of Bitcoin’s Most Closely Watched Addresses Went From 296 Transactions to 1,426 in Two Days, Its 598.5 BTC Has Not Moved, and the Minters Have Paid 3.6 Times More in Miner Fees Than They Have Delivered
The Liquid whitehats’ address went from 296 confirmed transactions on Friday to 1,426 on Sunday. Bitcoin Mastery recomputed the full list: 1,110 of them — 77.8% of the address’s lifetime history — belong to a token sale called $leaf, and all 1,109 of its mints pay the whitehats exactly 330 satoshis. The sale has collected 1.379 BTC, burned 1,311,938 satoshis in miner fees to deliver 366,300, and stalled from 381 mints an hour to three in two. The 598.5 BTC has not moved since 7 September and Liquid has not been rolled back again.
13/09/2026Trezor Update: A Phishing Email Went to 347,000 Newsletter Subscribers From Trezor’s Own Sending Domain and Passed SPF, DKIM and DMARC — the Company Says Its Brevo Account Was Compromised, BitBox and CoinTracking Report the Same Provider, and the Fake “STM32 Entropy” Alert Asked Some Recipients for an xPub
At about 19:30 UTC on Wednesday 9 September an email headed “Critical Security Alert: STM32 Entropy Vulnerability” reached roughly 347,000 Trezor newsletter subscribers. It came from help@trezor.io, returned to mailing.trezor.io and passed every authentication check a mail client runs, because it was sent through Trezor’s own account at Brevo, its third-party email provider. The claim it made — that one in four devices generates weak 40-bit seeds — is false. BitBox and CoinTracking reported phishing through the same provider the same day. Five days after the ShipMonk breach reached 80,000 customers, the second Trezor incident of the month is a different kind of leak, and this update scores it on Field Guide #43’s five questions.
11/09/2026How to Read a Blockchain Rollback — What a Rewind Is and Is Not, Who Can Do One and How Many Signatures It Takes, the Five Checks You Can Run With Nothing But a Block Explorer (the Timestamp Seam, the Height Re-Use, the Replay Burst, the Discarded Window, the Other Chain), and What It Means for Your Balance — Scored on Liquid’s 9 September Restart and Cronos’s 10,961-Block Rewind — Field Guide #46
Twice in ten days a blockchain has been wound back to a block before an exploit and restarted: Cronos discarded 10,961 blocks on 30 August, and on 9 September Blockstream’s Liquid sidechain resumed from block 4,050,335, replacing the exploit block and 896 more. Neither announcement told you how to check it. This guide does: five reads you can run on any public explorer — the timestamp seam between consecutive blocks, the changed block at a height you recorded earlier, the burst of transactions in the first new blocks, the size of the discarded window, and the chain that a rollback cannot touch — plus what each one means for a balance you hold, and a scorecard for the two September cases.
11/09/2026Markers Friday: The 10-Year Closed at 4.95%, Its Highest Since October 2023, the 2-Year Jumped 13 Basis Points on a 5.4% PPI and Oil Settled at $107 — Bitcoin Fell a Fourth Day to $76,529, Its Lowest Close Since 20 August; Real Yields Passed Marker I1, the Tranche Marker U1 Needs +4.95% Today, and CPI Prints at 12:30 UTC
The 10-year Treasury closed at 4.95% on Thursday, its highest since October 2023; the 2-year rose 13 basis points to 4.56% after August producer prices came in at 5.4% year on year; WTI settled at $102.48 and Brent at $107.63; and US stocks fell for a fourth day. Bitcoin fell for a fourth day too, 2.24% to $76,528.75 on Bitstamp, its lowest close since 20 August and $3,789 a coin under Strategy’s tranche. The 10-year real yield closed at 2.55% and settled marker I1 a pass; the 30-year at 5.37% has H3 passing by 12 basis points; marker U1 needs a +4.95% close today. Leverage came back after a day at the window low, funding fell to 3.3% annualised and the September basis collapsed from 6.6% to 4.0%. CPI is at 12:30 UTC; consensus is +0.4% headline and +0.2% core, and hike odds are about 70%.
11/09/2026Liquid Is Producing Blocks Again — From the Block Before the Exploit: Blockstream’s Explorer Now Shows Block 4,050,336, the Height the Federation Says Was Exploited on Sunday, Timestamped Wednesday Night, 897 Heights Re-Filled, 490 Transactions in the First Two Hours — and Two New PGP-Signed, Encrypted Messages From Blockstream to the “Whitehats”
Blockstream’s Liquid sidechain restarted block production at 21:05:10 UTC on Wednesday 9 September — not by appending to the chain it halted on Monday morning, but from block 4,050,335, the last block before the one the federation’s own incident report identifies as the exploit block. The heights from 4,050,336 to 4,051,232 now carry different blocks, timestamped 9 and 10 September; the first two hours carried 490 non-coinbase transactions across eight blocks. Peg-outs remain suspended. On the Bitcoin chain, Blockstream sent the party holding 598.5 BTC two new messages on Thursday, both PGP-signed with its published security key and both encrypted. The whitehats have not written since their 10% demand and have not moved a coin.
11/09/2026Strategy Update: The 8-K Says It “Did Not Purchase or Sell Any Bitcoin” From 31 August to 7 September — Marker M1 Fails — While It Spent $176.3 Million Buying Back Its Own Preferred Shares and Doubled That Authorisation to $2 Billion; the $80,318 Tranche Closed Wednesday $2,036 a Coin Under Water
Strategy’s weekly 8-K, filed on Monday 8 September for the period 31 August to 7 September, states that the company “did not sell any shares under its at-the-market offering program and did not purchase or sell any bitcoin,” leaving holdings at approximately 845,050 BTC at an average $75,412. The desk’s marker M1 — at least one bitcoin bought in the week after Michael Saylor’s “We’re Back” — fails. What the company did buy was 1,810,885 of its own STRC preferred shares for $176.3 million, and its board doubled that programme to $2 billion. The 4,603-coin tranche bought at $80,318 the week before closed Wednesday $2,036.35 a coin, or $9.37 million, under water.
10/09/2026How to Read a Whitehat’s Bounty Demand — What “Whitehat” Is Supposed to Mean, Where the 10% Norm Comes From, the Four Tests That Separate a Bounty From an Extortion Note, Who Actually Pays, and How to Do the Holder-Loss Arithmetic Yourself — Scored on Liquid’s 9 September Message — Field Guide #45
On Wednesday the party holding 598.5 BTC taken from Blockstream’s Liquid sidechain wrote into a Bitcoin transaction that Blockstream must “pay 10% using your own money as bug bounty” or its holders take “a 15% loss.” Crypto has a decade of these messages, and they are not all the same document. This guide gives you the vocabulary — whitehat, bounty, safe harbour, the 10% convention — then four tests to run on any such message: when the demand was made relative to the return, whether the sender kept the money hostage to it, whether the amount was set unilaterally, and whether the threat names a third party. It sets out who pays in each custody model, walks the holder-loss arithmetic on Liquid’s real numbers, and scores Wednesday’s message against each test.
10/09/2026Markers Thursday: The US Sank Five Iranian Tankers, Brent Settled Above $100 for the First Time Since July and the 10-Year Closed at 4.83% — Bitcoin Fell for a Third Day to $78,282, Perpetual Open Interest Printed the Low of Its Window, the ETFs Gave Back $166.8 Million in Two Sessions, and Strategy’s Marker Failed
US forces sank five Iranian tankers on Tuesday night and Iran said it hit ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday; Brent crude settled at about $101, its first close above $100 since July; and the 10-year Treasury closed at 4.83%, the 2-year at 4.43% and the 30-year at 5.28% on the Treasury’s own curve. Bitcoin closed Wednesday at $78,281.65 on Bitstamp, its third consecutive decline and $2,036 below the price Strategy paid for its last tranche — a tranche the company did not add to, which fails marker M1. The desk walks the nineteen open markers through two days it did not publish, with the perpetual at the low of its 31-day window, the September basis at 6.6%, two straight ETF outflow days, and producer prices due at 12:30 UTC today.
10/09/2026The Liquid “Whitehats” Sent 3,400 Bitcoin Back, Kept 598.5, and Have Now Written a Demand Into the Blockchain: Blockstream Must “Pay 10% Using Your Own Money” or Its Holders Take a 15% Loss — the Sidechain Is Still Paused at the Same Block It Stopped On Monday
At 16:09 UTC on Monday the party that pegged 3,996 BTC out of Blockstream’s Liquid sidechain sent exactly 3,400 BTC — about $266 million — to the federation’s peg address, kept 598.5 BTC, and then, at 11:45 UTC on Wednesday, wrote a 588-character demand into a Bitcoin transaction: Blockstream must pay a 10% bounty from its own funds or “cause all your holders a 15% loss.” Blockstream has not answered on-chain since its signed “safe to return the funds” message on Monday morning, Liquid’s explorer still shows the block it stopped on at 04:49 UTC Monday, an emergency Elements release is out, and the desk’s own marker on the return — 3,500 BTC by Sunday — is failing by exactly 100 coins.
10/09/2026Hyperliquid Update: The $820 Million Unlock Landed on Saturday and HYPE Printed Its All-Time High of $89.60 the Same Day — 9.92 Million Tokens Against 48.42 Million Burned, a $2.5 Billion Treasury Facility, and a Trump-Endorsed CFTC Path That Its Own Lawyers Put at About a Year
Hyperliquid released 9.92 million HYPE tokens from vesting on Saturday 6 September — about $820 million at the $82.60 the token traded at, 0.99% of maximum supply and 4.46% of what circulates — and the price made a new record of $89.60 at 12:28 UTC the same day, per CoinGecko, before settling to $86.84 at our pull. This update does the arithmetic behind the “unlock” headline that has preceded every one of these events and been wrong about most of them, sets the unlock against the 48.42 million tokens the protocol’s buyback fund has burned and the 29.3 million a Nasdaq-listed treasury company holds, and reads The Block’s account of how the exchange might legally reach US traders after the President said he wanted it to. It ends with one falsifiable claim about the price a week after the unlock.
07/09/2026How to Read a Bitcoin Sidechain Peg Incident — Who Holds the Coins, What a Federation and a PAK Are, Why a Consensus Bug Is Not a Key Theft, What “Paused” Means for Your L-BTC, and How to Verify an On-Chain Negotiation Yourself — Scored on Liquid’s 6 September Peg-Out — Field Guide #44
A sidechain is a promise: deposit bitcoin with a group of custodians, receive a token on another ledger, and get the bitcoin back when you burn the token. When 3,996 BTC left the Liquid Network’s federation on Sunday against tokens that a software bug had created out of nothing, the promise was tested at every link, and each link left a public record. This guide sets out the six questions to put to any peg incident — who holds the coins and under what rule, how a withdrawal is authorised, whether the failure was in custody or in consensus, what a pause does and does not protect, what an on-chain message proves, and what the return would look like — applies each to Liquid’s 6 September peg-out with the transactions the desk pulled and the PGP signatures it verified, and ends with one falsifiable claim about when the network restarts.
07/09/2026Markers Monday: Bitcoin Closed Sunday at $80,339 — $21 Above Strategy’s Tranche — Through a Weekend in Which the US Struck Three Iranian Tankers and Iran Fired at a Carrier; Leverage Left for a Third Day, the September Basis Rose to 5.27%, and the Week Ahead Holds PPI, CPI, a Cloture Vote and the Fed
The United States struck three Iranian vessels on Saturday after Iran fired ballistic missiles at an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer near the Strait of Hormuz, Brent closed Friday at $96.28 — its highest since 24 July — and bitcoin’s response over the weekend was a Saturday range of $722 and a Sunday close of $80,338.98, up 0.637%, which happens to sit $20.98 above the $80,318 average Strategy paid for its 4,603 coins last week. Monday is Labor Day: no US stocks, no Treasury file, no ETF row. The desk uses the quiet to walk the fifteen open markers, print the third consecutive day of leverage leaving the Binance perpetual, note that the September basis has climbed to 5.27% while funding sits at 3.06%, and set out the four dated events that will grade seven of those markers between Thursday and the following Friday.
07/09/2026Blockstream’s Liquid Sidechain Is Paused: 3,996 BTC — About $320 Million and 95% of Liquid’s Reserves — Were Pegged Out Through an Elements Software Bug on Sunday, and the “Whitehats” and Blockstream Are Now Negotiating in Signed Bitcoin Transactions
The Liquid Network, the federated Bitcoin sidechain built by Blockstream and used by exchanges, wallets and Tether, was paused on Sunday 6 September after a single customer order pegged out 3,996 BTC — roughly 95% of the bitcoin the federation held — using L-BTC that Blockstream says was “created through a bug in the Elements software.” The party holding the coins wrote “we are whitehats” into a Bitcoin transaction at 18:30 UTC; Blockstream answered on-chain with PGP-signed messages the desk has verified against the company’s published key; and by 03:30 UTC on Monday the whitehats had written that they will send “most” of the money back, after every node is patched. As of 06:13 UTC the 3,998.5 BTC had not moved. This is what is known, what is verified, and what is not.
07/09/2026CLARITY Act Update: The House Cancelled Its Last Two September Weeks Hours After We Counted the Votes — Four House Days Left (14–17 September), a Senate Cloture Vote on the 15th, and No Path to the President’s Desk Before the 9 November Lame Duck Even if Cloture Passes
On Thursday 3 September, the same morning we published a vote count that found the Senate short of 60 for the CLARITY Act’s 15 September cloture motion, Speaker Mike Johnson cancelled the House’s votes for the last two weeks of September — a reversal of what he had told reporters two days earlier. The House now returns on 14 September for four days and leaves on the 17th for six weeks of campaigning; the next scheduled session is the lame duck beginning 9 November, per ABC News. The Senate vote is procedural — cloture on the motion to proceed, needing 60 — and even if it succeeds, the Senate’s own post-cloture clock and amendment process cannot produce a passed bill the House can concur in before the House is gone. This update lays out the calendar arithmetic, what a 15 September yes and a 15 September no each mean in practice, and adds one falsifiable claim about whether the vote happens at all.
06/09/2026How to Read a Hardware-Wallet Data-Breach Notice — Who Held the Data and Why, Which Fields Leaked, the Retention Claim and How to Test It, Phishing Risk Versus Physical Risk, and Five Things to Do This Weekend — Scored on Trezor’s 4 September Update — Field Guide #43
A hardware wallet is designed so that nobody but its owner ever holds anything that can move the coins. That design was not touched by the ShipMonk breach, and it will not be touched by the next one. What breaches of this kind expose is the one thing a manufacturer cannot avoid knowing — who bought a device and where it was sent — and the notice a company publishes afterwards is a document with a structure that can be read, tested and scored. This guide sets out the six questions to put to any such notice, applies them to Trezor’s notice of 13 August as updated on 4 September, separates the two risks the leak creates and ranks them honestly, and ends with five actions in order of usefulness and one falsifiable claim about the fix Trezor has promised for this month.
06/09/2026Markers Sunday: The Retarget Settled at +1.31% and Graded D2 a Fail and F1 a Pass, Funding Printed Its First Negative Settlement in 113 Rows, 6,463 Coins of Leverage Have Now Left in Two Days, and the ETFs’ $174.6 Million Took September to +$770 Million
Two markers graded on Saturday night. The difficulty retarget at block 965,664 arrived at 20:32 UTC at +1.3065%, per mempool.space, taking difficulty to 127.45 trillion: D2, which needed a reading between −1.50% and 0.00%, failed; F1, which needed anything at or above zero, passed. The last 89 blocks of the period averaged 9.65 minutes, faster than the 9.88-minute period pace, which is why the realised figure came in above Saturday morning’s +1.20% projection. On Binance, perpetual open interest fell another 1,657 coins to 106,255 at 00:00 UTC — 6,463 coins, or 5.73%, below Thursday’s peak — and the 08:00 UTC Saturday funding settlement printed −0.000150%, the first negative print in the 113-settlement window we hold from 30 July. Farside filled Friday’s ETF row at $174.6 million, all of it IBIT and FBTC, taking the week to $986.7 million and September to +$770.0 million after four sessions. Bitcoin closed Saturday at $79,830.42, up 0.193%, in the tenth-narrowest range of the year. Fifteen markers are open after today’s three new ones; none other than D2 and F1 graded.
06/09/2026A Shipping Contractor Kept 67,000 Hardware-Wallet Buyers’ Home Addresses It Had Certified in Writing Were Deleted — Trezor’s Breach Is Now Almost Six Times Its August Size, About 80,000 Customers, and Reaches Back to 2019
Trezor updated its breach notice on Friday 4 September to say that ShipMonk, the logistics contractor whose systems were accessed in August, had also been holding order records from a previous contract that ran from November 2019 to August 2021 — records Trezor says it had “repeatedly requested and received written assurance” were deleted. Approximately 67,000 more US customers now have their name, email, phone number, shipping address and order number in the leaked set, on top of the 13,689 disclosed on 13 August, for a total of roughly 80,700. No device, key or backup was touched; what leaked is a list of people who bought a hardware wallet and where they live. This is the news, the numbers behind it, and one falsifiable claim about what the count does next.
06/09/2026Difficulty Update: Tonight’s Retarget Is Projected at +1.20% After a Projection That Went +1.42 → +0.80 → +0.23 → +1.47 → +1.20 in Five Mornings — Marker D2 Fails and F1 Passes Unless the Last 90 Blocks Average Over Twelve Minutes; Hashrate 987 EH/s on Thursday and 913 on Friday, Fees at 1 sat/vB
Bitcoin’s next difficulty adjustment lands at block 965,664, expected around 21:00 UTC on Saturday 5 September 2026, and mempool.space’s projection at our 06:10 UTC pull was +1.200% with 90 blocks remaining and an average block time of 593.19 seconds for the period. That would take difficulty from 125.81 trillion to about 127.32 trillion, reversing most of the −1.312% cut on 23 August, and it grades two markers set on this retarget: D2, which asked for a landing between −1.50% and 0.00%, fails; F1, which asked for zero or better, passes. We show what the last 90 blocks would have to do to change that, print the five-morning path of the projection, the daily hashrate series (987 EH/s for Thursday, the highest daily reading since Sunday 30 August’s 1,053, and 913 for Friday), the past week’s pool shares, and a fee market at 1 sat/vB.
05/09/2026How to Read a Treasury Yield Headline — “Jumped 8 Basis Points” Versus Closed +3, the 3:30 PM Bid-Side Rule, Peak Versus Close, and Which Number a Falsifiable Claim Should Grade On — Scored on Friday’s 2-Year — Field Guide #42
On Friday the 2-year Treasury yield rose “eight basis points” in Bloomberg’s headline, peaked at 4.4246% in Reuters’ account, its highest since January 2025, and closed three basis points higher on the Treasury’s file. All three are true. This field guide is about the gap between them: what the Treasury’s constant-maturity figure actually is (a bid-side par yield read at or near 3:30 PM Eastern), why a wire service’s “last” and “peak” are different numbers from a different clock, why the two sources can disagree on yesterday’s level by a basis point, and which of the numbers a claim you intend to grade later should be tied to. Six checks, worked on 4 September 2026, the day our marker J1 failed on the close after it would have passed on the peak.
05/09/2026Markers Saturday: J1 Failed on a 3bp Close, the 5,065 Coins of Leverage That Arrived Thursday Left on Friday (−4,805), Funding Fell to 1.1% Annualised, H3 Slipped 1bp Below Its Bar — and the Retarget Grades D2 and F1 Tonight at About +1.20%
One marker failed on Friday. J1 — the 2-year Treasury moving at least 5bp on the payrolls close — graded on a +3bp close at 4.37%, on the day the print beat the consensus by 109,000. The leverage story reversed in a single snapshot: Binance perpetual open interest, which had added 5,065.48 coins into Friday’s 00:00 UTC row, lost 4,805.01 into Saturday’s (−4.263%), the largest one-day decline of the twelve daily snapshots we hold, with the coin/dollar identity closing at 0.93830; funding at the 00:00 settlement fell to 0.001014% per eight hours, 1.110% annualised, the lowest since 16 August; the September basis held at 2.875%; retail accounts flipped back to net long and the largest positions to their most long of six rows. H3 is failing by 1bp after the 30-year closed at 5.24%. The difficulty projection is +1.200% with 90 blocks to go and the retarget expected around 21:00 UTC tonight, which fails D2 and passes F1 unless the last 90 blocks average more than twelve minutes. The Farside row for Friday was blank at our pull. Fifteen markers on the board: three settled (two passes, one fail), two grading tonight, ten open.
05/09/2026Payrolls Came In at Three Times the Consensus — 162,000 Against 53,000 — and the 2-Year Treasury Closed Just 3 Basis Points Higher. Marker J1 Failed, Hike Odds Went Back Above 50%, and Bitcoin Gave Back 40% of Thursday’s Gain
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported at 08:30 ET on Friday that US employers added 162,000 jobs in August, three times the 53,000 Dow Jones consensus, the largest gain since March, with June and July revised up by a combined 55,000 and unemployment unchanged at 4.1%. The CME FedWatch probability of a September hike, which Governor Waller had talked down to about 50% on Thursday, was back at 52.6% by 09:05 ET and at 58–60% by the afternoon. And the 2-year Treasury, which touched 4.4246% intraday — its highest since January 2025, per Reuters — closed at 4.37% on the Treasury’s file, three basis points above Thursday. Our marker J1 needed five. It failed. Bitcoin closed at $79,676.60 on Bitstamp, down 1.955%, giving back $1,588 of Thursday’s $3,963 gain; stocks fell 0.38%; and the number Waller said would decide his vote, the August CPI, is still six days away.
05/09/2026Strategy Update: The $80,318 Tranche Went From $12.1 Million Underwater to $4.4 Million in Profit in One Session, MSTR Rose 17.56% on a 5.13% Bitcoin Day, B. Riley Moved Its Target to $175 — and Marker H1 Settled 27 Days Early
On Tuesday this desk reported that Strategy had paid $80,318 a coin for 4,603 bitcoin — more than bitcoin closed at on any day it was buying — and that the tranche was $6.0 million underwater. By Thursday morning it was $12.1 million underwater. Then bitcoin closed at $81,265.00, and the same 4,603 coins finished the day $4.36 million in profit, a $16.5 million swing in one session. Strategy’s stock rose 17.56% to $144.82 on 43.9 million shares, its largest gain since 19 August, and B. Riley raised its price target to $175 from $155. The whole 845,050-coin position is worth $68.67 billion at the close, $4.95 billion above cost. Marker H1, which asked whether bitcoin would close above the tranche price by 30 September, settled on 3 September. A new one, M1, asks whether the company bought again this week.
04/09/2026How to Read a Fed Governor’s Speech — Reaction Function, Forward Guidance and the Half of the Sentence the Headline Drops, Scored on Waller’s 3 September Remarks and on the 2-Year Treasury — Field Guide #41
On Thursday a Fed governor moved the market’s September hike odds by twelve points in minutes, and most of the coverage quoted half of the sentence that did it. This guide teaches you to read a Fed speech from the text rather than the headline, using the speaker’s own taxonomy: Christopher Waller’s 3 September remarks end with a three-part account of how he communicates — explaining the current vote, stating a reaction function, and giving forward guidance — and he tells you which of the three he is doing. Six checks: find the text and the release time; classify every policy sentence; extract the conditional’s trigger, its date and its asymmetry; establish who is speaking and where they sit relative to the Chair; score the market on the 2-year Treasury against a baseline; and write the reversal condition before you write the reaction. Worked on Waller, on the 5bp fall in the 2-year, and on bitcoin’s 5.127% day.
04/09/2026Markers Friday: H1 Settled at $81,265 and I3 Settled at a 2.85% Basis, the ETFs’ $730.8 Million Was the Largest of 14 Sessions and Flipped September Positive, and 5,065 Coins of Perpetual Leverage Arrived Overnight
Two markers settled on Thursday and both passed. H1 — a Bitstamp close at or above Strategy’s $80,318 tranche price by 30 September — settled at $81,265.00, a 1.179% margin, 27 days early. I3 — a September quarterly basis below 4.00% annualised at a 06:00 UTC snapshot before 25 September — settled at 2.849%, down from 4.306% in one day. H2, September’s ETF total, flipped from −$135.4 million to +$595.4 million on a $730.8 million session, the largest of the fourteen on Farside’s table. Meanwhile Binance perpetual open interest added 5,065 coins overnight (+4.705%), the largest one-day addition in our ten snapshots, with the coin/dollar identity closing at 1.10031; funding printed 9.371% annualised; retail accounts flipped net short; the difficulty projection jumped to +1.468% with the retarget pulled forward to Saturday evening; and Fear & Greed rose nine points to 74. Twelve markers, two settled, ten open, one grading tonight.
04/09/2026A Fed Governor Said He Would Vote to Hold. September Hike Odds Fell From 67% to 54%, the 2-Year Dropped 5 Basis Points, Stocks Had Their Best Day in a Month — and Bitcoin Rose 5.13% to Its First Close Above $81,000 Since 14 May
At 08:30 Washington time on Thursday, Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller told a Reuters audience that if August’s inflation data keep improving he will support holding the policy rate. Within minutes the CME FedWatch probability of a September hike fell from about 67% to 54.6%, and by the evening it was near 50%. The 2-year Treasury closed 5 basis points lower at 4.34%, the S&P 500 rose 1.06% to 7,747.71, and bitcoin gained 5.127% on Bitstamp to close at $81,265.00 — the eighth-largest up day of 2026, the biggest since 21 August, and the first close above $81,000 since 14 May. The same session brought $730.8 million into the US spot bitcoin ETFs, the largest of the fourteen sessions on Farside’s table. Payrolls print this morning; CPI, the number Waller actually named, prints on 11 September.
04/09/2026CLARITY Act Update: 12 Days to the Cloture Vote, 53 Republican Seats Minus Paul and Hawley, Two Committed Democrats Against Ten Needed, and Polymarket at 16% — What Has to Change by 15 September
The Senate returns on 14 September and votes on cloture for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on 15 September, twelve days from today. Sixty votes are needed. Republicans hold 53 seats, Rand Paul and Josh Hawley are opposed, Thom Tillis is conditional, and two Democrats crossed over in committee. Seven Democratic senators say the text “falls short.” Three disputes — ethics rules that reach the president’s $1.4 billion in crypto income, DeFi developer liability under Section 604, and stablecoin yield — are unresolved after a recess that produced no deal. Polymarket, per crypto.news, prices 2026 passage at roughly 16%, down from 82% in February; Galaxy Digital is at 10%. Meanwhile the SEC’s Regulation Crypto Assets proposal, published 18 August, takes comments until 20 October and covers the offering side whether the bill lives or dies.
03/09/2026How to Tell Which Jobs Print Actually Moves Rates — ADP, JOLTS, Claims and Payrolls Scored on the 2-Year Treasury, and What the Same Test Says About Bitcoin — Field Guide #40
Every jobs week produces four labour prints and a dozen headlines that say the market “reacted.” This guide gives you a scoreboard that does not care about the headlines: the 2-year Treasury’s daily close from the Treasury’s own file, scored by release date. Five checks, one worked example (2026: payrolls days move the 2-year 4.6bp on average, ADP days 2.1bp, ordinary days 3.7bp across 168 session-to-session changes), and an honest negative result — the same test run on bitcoin’s daily closes does not separate the two, and we print that rather than hide it.
03/09/2026Markers Thursday: The ETFs Took Back $101 Million of Tuesday’s Outflow, GBTC Posted Its Largest Redemption in 13 Sessions, and the Difficulty Projection Has Fallen 1.18 Points in 48 Hours
Nothing settled on Thursday and nothing was supposed to. Ten markers are open, and this is the daily grading: September ETF flows at −$135.4 million after two sessions (H2), bitcoin 3.383% below Strategy’s $80,318 entry (H1), the 30-year at 5.27% (H3, passing), the 10-year real yield at 2.45% and five basis points from I1, September basis at 4.306% and 31 basis points from I3, perpetual open interest 7.65% above G1’s bar, and a difficulty projection that has gone from +1.415% to +0.796% to +0.234% in three mornings and now settles early Sunday. All figures own-pulled at 06:10 UTC, 3 September 2026.
03/09/2026Private Employers Added Just 38,000 Jobs in August, the Weakest Since January — the 2-Year Treasury Did Not Move a Basis Point, and Bitcoin Closed Down 0.12%
ADP said on Wednesday that private employers added 38,000 jobs in August, below the 47,000 consensus and the slowest month since January, one day after JOLTS openings missed and hours before the Fed’s Beige Book said employment “rose very slightly.” The market that prices the Fed shrugged: the 2-year Treasury closed at 4.39%, unchanged, the 10-year closed at 4.79%, unchanged, and September hike odds stayed near two-in-three. Bitcoin closed down 0.124% at $77,301.83 on Bitstamp. We scored every ADP and payrolls release of 2026 against the 2-year: payrolls days move it 4.6bp on average, ADP days 2.1bp, and Wednesday moved it zero.
03/09/202621 Banks Including Citi, Goldman, BofA and UBS Will Launch a Dollar Stablecoin in H1 2027 — Circle Fell 6.1%, Barclays and BNP Paribas Dropped Out, and Singapore Proposed a Yield Ban the Same Morning
Twenty-one institutions including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, UBS and Deutsche Bank committed on 1 September to form a stablecoin company in H2 2026 with a USD coin targeted for H1 2027 and a euro coin to follow. Eight of October 2025's ten founding banks remain; Barclays and BNP Paribas are absent. Circle fell 6.13%. The same morning Singapore proposed 100% reserves and a ban on yield. What it means for bitcoin's rails.
02/09/2026How to Split a Bond-Yield Move Into Real Rate and Inflation — the TIPS Breakeven Check Nobody Runs on "Oil Is Pushing Yields Up" Headlines — Field Guide #39
A Treasury yield is a real rate plus inflation compensation, and the two halves push on bitcoin in opposite directions. The Treasury publishes both every day. This guide shows how to run the split in four minutes, works it against 27 August to 1 September 2026 - a week in which the Warsh day was almost entirely real rates and the oil day almost entirely inflation - and marks the four ways the method misleads.
02/09/2026Markers Wednesday: September's First ETF Session Was a $236.5m Outflow — and the First Session Has Called the Month's Sign Exactly 16 Times in 32
September's first spot bitcoin ETF session was a $236.5 million net outflow, the largest since 31 July, with IBIT's $201.2 million its largest since 24 July. We scored all 32 complete months of Farside data: the first session's sign has matched the month's sign 16 times. Also on the board: H1 now needs +3.43%, the difficulty projection gave back 0.62 points, the September basis fell 117bp to 4.29% annualised, and the crowd flipped net long into the first red day.
02/09/2026Japan's 10-Year Hit 3% for the First Time Since 1996, the US 10-Year Closed at a 20-Month High, Gold Lost 7% in a Week — and Bitcoin Is 0.23% From Friday's Close
Japan's ten-year yield closed at 3% for the first time since 1996, the US ten-year closed at 4.79%, gold is down 7.3% in seven sessions and Asian equities fell 2-4% overnight after US-Iran strikes pushed Brent above $95. Bitcoin is 0.23% below Friday's close. We split the Treasury move into real yield and breakeven: the Warsh day was real rates, Tuesday was inflation, and the 'highest since 2023' claim does not survive the daily series.
02/09/2026Four Outlets Published Four Different Odds of a September Fed Hike Yesterday. The Two-Year Treasury Did Not Move at All
The biggest number in global markets this morning is the probability that the Federal Reserve raises rates on 16 September. Four outlets published four different versions of it inside seventy-two hours: 57.5%, 58%, 60.4% and 66.1%, all sourced to the same CME FedWatch tool. They are not contradicting each other — they are timestamps — but the spread is 8.6 points and almost nobody printed the clock. Meanwhile the instrument that actually has to price the decision did something more interesting than any of them: the two-year Treasury yield moved 14 basis points on Friday when Warsh spoke, and then, on the Monday when the published odds jumped to 66%, it did not move at all. For bitcoin, which just closed its best August on record into a tightening Fed, that gap is the story.
01/09/2026How to Check Whether a Bitcoin Treasury Company Actually Bought Well — Seven Checks, and the VWAP Comparison Almost Nobody Runs — Field Guide #38
Every few weeks a company announces it has bought bitcoin, discloses an average price, and the number is reported without anyone asking the obvious question: compared to what? A disclosed average price is meaningless on its own. It only becomes information when you put it next to the price the market was actually clearing at during the days the company was buying. That comparison takes about ten minutes and one free API, and it is the difference between reading a press release and reading a filing. This guide walks through seven checks, in order, using Strategy’s 31 August 8-K as the worked example — including the three ways the comparison can mislead you if you run it carelessly.
01/09/2026Markers Tuesday: August Was the First Positive August in the Bitcoin ETFs’ History — and Both Septembers on Record Were Green
Three markers settled overnight on final August data and all three passed. The ETF marker cleared its bar by $114.2 million, and pulling the full 32-month Farside history to grade it turned up something nobody printed on Monday: the US spot bitcoin ETFs have now seen three Augusts, and this is the only one that was positive. August 2024 lost $92.2 million, August 2025 lost $749.2 million, August 2026 took in $3,539.1 million. The same table also contains both Septembers on record, and both were green — which is awkward for the seasonality argument this desk itself ran on Sunday. Plus: BlackRock supplied 87.30% of the entire month, and the difficulty projection swung another 1.09 points overnight.
01/09/2026Strategy Paid $80,318 a Coin for 4,603 Bitcoin — More Than Bitcoin Closed at on Any Day It Was Buying — and the Tranche Is Already $6 Million Underwater
Strategy ended a ten-week pause on Monday with an 8-K disclosing 4,603 bitcoin bought between 24 and 30 August for $369.7 million, an average of $80,318 a coin. We checked that average against the market it was buying into. Bitcoin did not close above $80,318 on a single one of those seven days — the highest close in the window was $80,249.58 on 27 August — and the volume-weighted average price of the same seven days on Binance was $78,930.87. Strategy paid 1.757% above it, or $6.385 million more than the window’s own average trade. At Tuesday morning’s price the tranche is worth $6.002 million less than it cost. The whole 845,050-coin position, by contrast, is $3.044 billion in front.
01/09/2026Saylor Posted ‘We’re ₿ack’ on Sunday. The Filing That Decides It Lands This Morning — and the $2.8bn Profit Figure in Circulation Is $225m Too Small
Strategy has bought no bitcoin since 22 June and raised $2.0 billion in a single week without spending it. Its 24 August 8-K reports 840,447 coins at a $63.36 billion aggregate cost — an average of $75,385, not the $75,653 circulating in coverage. At Monday’s price the position is $2.18 billion in profit, after being $10.56 billion under water on 1 August.
31/08/2026How to Tell Whether a Rally Was Bought With Cash or With Leverage — Six Checks, and the One Identity That Has to Multiply Out Exactly — Field Guide #37
Dollar open interest rises when the price rises even if nobody opens a contract, which is why “record open interest” is usually a statement about price. Six checks — the coin/dollar identity, annualised funding and its cap, annualised basis minus the T-bill, the shape of the curve across two tenors, the cohort spread, and the cash leg — with the August 2026 numbers worked through and the trap in each one named.
31/08/2026Markers Monday: Bitcoin’s $1.44bn of New Open Interest in August Was Entirely Revaluation — the Coin Count Fell 2,196 — and We Were Wrong About the Greed Record
Binance perpetual open interest rose $1.44 billion in dollar terms across August and fell 2,196 coins in coin terms; the two changes multiply out exactly. The September basis annualises at 5.349% against a 3.90% three-month bill. Three markers settle on tonight’s prints. And Sunday’s “longest greed streak” figure was an artifact of how deep we pulled — the current run ranks 23rd of 98, not second.
31/08/2026The US Struck Iran at the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Oil Jumped, Gave Half of It Back Within Hours — and Bitcoin Moved 0.35%
US forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larak island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the first American military action against Iran in about five weeks. Crude rose 1.9% on the Associated Press’s early quote and was up only 1.08% by 21:37 ET. Bitcoin was $77,973.57 on Monday morning, up 0.35%. Across eleven days of continuous escalation it is down 0.449%.
31/08/2026Bitcoin Sentiment Has Been in ‘Greed’ for Eleven Straight Days. In the Other 231 Days of 2026 It Managed Exactly One
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index printed 69 on Sunday morning, its eleventh consecutive day at or above the Greed threshold. Set that against the year it sits inside: across 242 days of 2026 the index has closed in the Greed band on twelve of them, and eleven are the last eleven. The twelfth was a single Thursday in January. Over the last 400 daily readings the index averages 30.8 and today’s 69 sits inside the top 5.5%. It rose over a weekend that followed the worst daily close in forty sessions and the worst ETF session of the month.
30/08/2026How to Read a Seasonality Statistic Without Fooling Yourself — Six Checks Before You Let a Month Move Your Money — Field Guide #36
Every year at the end of August the same statistics come out of storage, and every year most of them are wrong in the same six ways. This guide gives you the six checks — where the table starts, whether the first row is a whole month, mean versus median, the denominator of the conditional, whether the pattern is a calendar effect or a block of years, and what would falsify it. Each check is worked against real numbers we pulled ourselves, including the one that turns a 41.33% average November into a 7.27% average November, and the one that turns bitcoin’s largest month on record into a fifteen-day stub.
30/08/2026Markers Sunday: The Difficulty Projection Swung 1.79 Points in 24 Hours and Killed Two Markers We Called Unresolvable — and We Were Wrong About the 30-Year
Bitcoin’s projected difficulty adjustment moved from −0.9414% to +0.8494% in twenty-four hours — a 1.79-percentage-point swing that resolves two markers we recorded yesterday as unresolvable, and fails both. Open interest has now moved more than 1.9% on three consecutive sessions and netted 1.97%. Funding printed at exactly the exchange cap on all three of Saturday’s settlements, something that has happened on only four of the last 166 complete days — all four inside the last nine. And we owe readers a correction: we published on Saturday that the 30-year Treasury yield fell on 28 August. The US Treasury’s own constant-maturity series says it rose three basis points to 5.22%.
30/08/2026Bitcoin Has ‘Never’ Had a Green September After a Green August. In 2012 It Did — and the Viral Version of That Statistic Also Loses the Biggest Green August on Record
August closes on Monday with bitcoin up 24.45% on the month and the September FOMC priced as a coin flip. Into that gap has walked a statistic: bitcoin has never had a green September after a green August, not once. We pulled 4,990 daily candles and checked. The claim is false. August 2012 rose 9.48% and September 2012 rose 19.80%, both full 30-and-31-day months, and the claim survives only because the table it is quoted from begins in 2013. The same statistic, as it is circulating, also drops August 2017 — up 65.78%, the largest green August bitcoin has ever had. And the deeper problem is that on two of the three measures anyone actually uses, August, not September, is bitcoin’s worst month.
30/08/2026Bitcoin’s Nine-Session ETF Inflow Streak Ended With −$201.9m — and One Fund Was 56.9% of It
One fund did most of the damage, and it was not the one anybody watches. ARKB redeemed $114.9m against IBIT's $33.4m, three funds printed exactly zero, and the month's total now sits $102.5m short of the bar we set for it - with one trading session left.
29/08/2026How to Tell Whether the News Actually Moved the Market — a Seven-Step Attribution Checklist — Field Guide #35
Markets move every day and events happen every day, so any session offers a menu of true-sounding pairings. This is a seven-step checklist for separating causation from coincidence, using free data, worked all the way through on bitcoin's fall around the Jackson Hole keynote.
29/08/2026Markers Saturday: The Leverage That ‘Arrived’ on Friday Left on Saturday and Netted 15.55 Bitcoin — and B2 Went From Passing to Failing in One Session
We wrote on Friday that there was positioning to unwind. There was, and it unwound - but on the hawkish outcome we had named as the less dangerous one. Full grading of X2, Y1 and B2, the crowd's 29.08% one-day flip into net long on a 5.6% drawdown, and a table of everything we got wrong this week.
29/08/2026Warsh Said ‘Hike’ Three Times at Jackson Hole. All Three Were About Walking — and He Said ‘Payment’ Zero Times at a Payments Symposium
Markets repriced September from 35% to about 59% on a speech that never proposed a rate increase. We counted every word against the Fed's own transcript: 'hike' appears three times, all three about walking the trails around Jackson Hole. And the hourly tape says the break came at noon Eastern, two hours after he finished.

28/08/2026August 2026 Is Bitcoin’s Best August on Record — Not ‘Since 2017’ — and the Year Is Still Down 8.86%
A claim circulating this week says August 2026 is Bitcoin’s best August since 2017. We pulled all 109 monthly candles Binance has printed for BTCUSDT: at +27.02% it is the best August in the entire record, 13.42 points clear of 2021, and 2017’s +10.87% is only third. It is also the best month of any kind since November 2024, and the year to date is still −8.86%.
28/08/2026How to Turn a Market Opinion Into a Claim That Can Actually Be Proved Wrong — Field Guide #34
Most market opinions cannot be wrong, which is why they survive forever. This field guide sets out the six components of a resolvable claim, the five ways a claim quietly becomes untestable, a seven-question pre-flight checklist, and three grading rules : built from four of this desk’s own markers that were graded defective this week.
28/08/2026Markers Friday: C1 Passes the Bar We Called Badly Designed — and Z2 Fails on a Bar That Was the Series Maximum All Along
Four markers expired. C1 passed by 1.62% nine hours after we called its bar badly designed; C2 passed at 2.0712; Z3 settled at +$1,126.4m. Z2 failed : and its bar, 111,988, turns out to be the exact maximum of the 31-row open-interest series it was testing. Plus the largest one-day OI build in the retained series, funding positive in 90 of 90 while still 0-of-500 above baseline, and an ETF session that was IBIT-only.
28/08/2026The Man Whose Bank Hosts Jackson Hole Says Rates Are ‘Very Accommodating’ — and Floated 50 Basis Points. Bitcoin Went to Its Highest Since May Anyway
Kansas City Fed president Jeff Schmid, whose bank hosts Jackson Hole, said the policy rate is “very accommodating” and answered “we’ll see” when asked about 25 or 50 basis points of hikes. Bitcoin then printed $81,478.87, its highest since May 2026, and spot ETFs took a ninth straight positive session at +$242.3m. Warsh’s first keynote lands 10:00 a.m. ET Friday.
28/08/2026BlackRock Has Swapped More Than $5 Billion of Bitcoin Into IBIT Shares — and Not One Dollar of It Is an Inflow
Robbie Mitchnick told Bloomberg on 25 August 2026 that IBIT has processed more than $5bn of in-kind bitcoin-to-ETF conversions, roughly double the ~$3bn of October, after the minimum was cut from $25m to $1m in July. None of it is an inflow. Plus Wednesday's +$232.2m row, and the Grayscale pattern: GBTC's -$50.4m was 92.9% offset by its own Mini Trust, and the complex is a net receiver of $79.2m in August.
27/08/2026How to Read a Stablecoin Reserve Attestation — Field Guide #33
Field guide #33: how to read a stablecoin reserve attestation. The attestation-versus-audit distinction, why the as-of date is the first thing to check, how to read a composition table as a risk table, what a reported surplus is a surplus of, why redemption terms bind harder than reserves, and what the GENIUS Act does and does not cover. With Tether's August 2026 KPMG audit as a worked example - including why an opinion you cannot read is a press release about an opinion.
27/08/2026Markers Thursday: A3 Fails by a Tenth of a Point — and Our Most-Quoted Fact About This Rally Turns Out Not to Be About This Rally
A3 fails: July core PCE printed 3.3% against a 3.2% bar - on an annual rate that has not moved since June. And the funding claim this column has led on for four runs turns out to cover 500 settlements back to 13 March, not the 24 we published: true, far bigger, and for that reason not evidence about August at all. Plus C3's projection moving 0.208pp in fifteen minutes, both cohorts reversing off 30-day extremes, and open interest falling for a second day.
27/08/2026Jackson Hole Opens Today, and the Fed’s Own Release Names Cryptocurrencies and Stablecoins — 36 Hours After an Inflation Print That Did Not Actually Move
The Kansas City Fed's 49th Jackson Hole symposium opens 27 August 2026 on the theme 'Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy' - and the Fed's own 25 August release names cryptocurrencies and stablecoins in its framing paragraph. Meanwhile July core PCE held at 3.3% and headline at 3.7%: both annual rates are unchanged from June, contrary to most coverage. Bitcoin enters the week at $78,667.68, up 25.09% in August.
27/08/2026The World’s First Zcash ETF Opened Three Per Cent Below Its Own Coins and Closed at Par — While ZEC Fell 7.6%
Grayscale's ZCSH, the world's first spot Zcash ETP, debuted on NYSE Arca on 25 August 2026 with $14.8m of volume and closed down 1.54% at $63.10. The arithmetic shows it opened roughly 3% below the value of its own 387,849 ZEC and finished within 0.18% of NAV - the arbitrage mechanism working in public on day one. Also: the widely quoted $313m asset figure is a day stale.
26/08/2026How to Read a Failed Breakout: the Five Questions, and Why New York Never Saw Bitcoin’s $81,272 — Field Guide #32
A repeatable procedure for reading a breakout attempt while it happens, using five questions and free public data - the level and its clearance, the time zone, the candle's shape, the derivatives, and who was selling. Worked through bitcoin's 25 August 2026 rejection at the 50-week moving average, where the high printed at 10 p.m. Eastern and the entire US session traded 2.10% below it.
26/08/2026Markers Wednesday: the Size Money Bought the Rejection, the Crowd Went Exactly Flat — and the Gap Between Them Is the Widest in 30 Days
Nine live markers graded on the morning July core PCE settles A3. Binance's top-trader position ratio hit 2.2560, a 30-day high, on the candle that rejected $81,272 - while the retail crowd went to 50.02% long, 49.98% short. The spread between the two cohorts, 2.254x, is also a 30-day high. Funding has now failed 24 straight settlements, and we revise B2's odds upward and A3's downward.
26/08/2026The Fed’s Favourite Inflation Gauge Lands at 8:30, Two Days Before Warsh’s First Jackson Hole — and Bitcoin Gave Back Its $81,272 Breakout While New York Slept
July core PCE publishes at 8:30 a.m. ET today with consensus split between 3.2% and 3.3%, two days before Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole keynote as Fed Chair. Bitcoin enters it at $78,973 after printing $81,272.62 at 10 p.m. New York time and giving all of it back: the entire US cash session traded at least 2.10% below the high. ETFs bought a seventh straight day, but IBIT did 90.5% of it.
26/08/2026Strategy Creates ‘USD Cash’, Sells $2.01 Billion of Stock in a Week, and Buys Zero Bitcoin
Strategy sold $2.01 billion of its own stock in the week bitcoin had its best week since March 2023, and bought none of it. Instead it created USD Cash, a new $1.59 billion pool that is 98.7% funded by that single week of issuance. Every line reconciled from the filing: the USD Reserve closes exactly at $5.10bn, the implied issue price was $109.88 a share (up 13.89% on the prior week), and the STRC buyback retired $143.1m of stated amount for $136.4m of cash.
25/08/2026How to Read a Jackson Hole Symposium: The Agenda, Warsh’s First Keynote, and What Actually Moves Bitcoin
The 2026 Jackson Hole symposium ran 27–29 August on the theme ‘Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy’. This guide covers what the event is and is not, the agenda-publication trap, the keynotes that moved markets and the ones that did not, and a seven-step reading procedure — now updated with the published agenda and what the keynote actually contained.
25/08/2026Markers Tuesday: A1 Passes, the Crowd Goes Net Short Into a Three-Month High, and the Funding Pin Breaks Downwards
Two positioning series flipped on the candle that took bitcoin to $81,272.62, and both flips argue against the story the coverage is telling. The crowd’s account ratio went below 1.00 — net short at a three-month high — while the size accounts trimmed a series high for the first time in six days. Coin open interest is building at last, up 1.60%, and still 4.26% below where it was before the rally. Plus A1 graded, three new markers, and X2 and Y1 failing against our own premise.
25/08/2026Treasury Names Digital Assets a Sanctionable Sector of Iran’s Economy — and Bitcoin Answers With $81,272, Its Highest Print Since 15 May
Treasury named digital assets a sanctionable sector of Iran’s economy on Monday, alongside roughly 60 designations. Bitcoin printed $81,272.62 on Tuesday, its highest since 15 May — 102 days. But crude fell 2.35% into the announcement and the long bond rallied, so we are again declining the geopolitical-hedge framing. Plus: ETF breadth returned on Monday, non-IBIT flow up 88.7%, and Bessent’s own $1 billion figure retires the $500 billion number circulating all weekend.
25/08/2026Strategy’s Monetisation Programme Now Has a Price Tag: 6,916 Bitcoin Sold at an Average of $62,078, Worth $108 Million More at Sunday’s Close
Strategy has not bought a bitcoin since the week ending 21 June. Across nine reporting periods it sold 6,916 coins for $429.33 million, an average of $62,077.79 — 20.14% below Sunday’s settled weekly close of $77,734.00. The gap is $108.28 million. Meanwhile the remaining 840,447-coin position went from $52.1 million above cost on Friday to $1.97 billion above it at the weekly close, and the tenth consecutive weekly 8-K lands today.
24/08/2026How to Read a Sanctions Announcement: SDN Lists, Secondary Sanctions, Wind-Down Windows — and What OFAC Can and Cannot Do to Your Bitcoin
Field guide #30. At 2:00pm ET today the US Treasury announces what it calls an “economic D-Day” against Iran. This guide is a ten-minute reading procedure: which of five documents you are actually looking at, why secondary sanctions carry all the market impact, what the 50 Percent Rule captures that the press release does not, and the precise difference between what OFAC can do to a designated wallet address and what nobody can do to a bitcoin balance.
24/08/2026Markers Monday: Z1 Passes on a Settled Close, Z2 Hits a Series Low — and Funding Has Now Spent Eight Straight Settlements Pinned to the Floor
Z1 passes on a settled weekly close of $77,734.00 — and we grade the marker’s design as well as its outcome. Z2, our own falsification marker, hits a series low at 105,531 BTC while dollar open interest reads +16%. Sixteen consecutive funding settlements at or below the 0.0100% baseline, the last eight exactly at it. The top-trader position ratio hits 2.0859, a series high, for a fifth straight day. Plus three new markers, including one that settles today.
24/08/2026Oil Falls Into Bessent’s ‘Economic D-Day’ — and Bitcoin’s Settled Weekly Close Makes It the Best Week Since March 2023, by $989.71
Brent fell 1.38% to $93.09 ahead of Treasury Secretary Bessent’s 2:00pm ET Iran sanctions press conference — the market’s first vote on “economic D-Day” was to sell oil. Meanwhile bitcoin’s weekly candle settled at $77,734.00, a 23.58% gain and the largest since March 2023, clearing the threshold we published on Sunday by $989.71. Sixteen straight funding settlements at or below baseline; coin open interest at a series low.
24/08/2026Grayscale’s 8-K Settles the Ticker: The Zcash ETF Is ZCSH, and It Anticipates Listing on NYSE Arca on or About 25 August
The crypto press spent the weekend split between ZCH and ZCSH. Grayscale’s Form 8-K, filed 21 August 2026, settles it: the ticker is ZCSH, the trust becomes The Zcash ETF, and shares are anticipated to begin trading on NYSE Arca on or about 25 August — a date almost nobody carried. Plus what GBTC’s $27.5bn of post-conversion outflows say about trust conversions, and why ZEC’s 62% week looks nothing like bitcoin’s 21% one.
23/08/2026How to Read a Weekly Close: Why Four Sources Published Four Different Bitcoin Prices for the Same Friday
Field guide #29. On Friday 21 August 2026, Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and CNBC published four different closing prices for bitcoin, up to $1,394 apart. None was wrong. This guide explains what a bitcoin close actually is, the five conventions in common use, how to compute your own weekly ranking in four lines of code, and why a $572 move this weekend changed a headline from ‘best week since March 2023’ to ‘best week since February 2024’.
23/08/2026Markers Sunday: U2 Fails at −1.312%, and the Largest Accounts on Binance Just Crossed 2:1 Long — Into the Drawdown
Bitcoin’s difficulty retargeted at −1.312% this morning and our U2 marker failed. The seven-snapshot post-mortem shows the projection had the wrong sign for two consecutive days at mid-epoch. Meanwhile Binance’s top-trader position ratio hit 2.0533, a series high, rising through a 4% drawdown while the retail account ratio sat flat at 1.0072.
23/08/2026Hormuz Shut, Bessent’s Sanctions Monday, and a Weekend That Quietly Changed Which Record Bitcoin Is Setting
The Strait of Hormuz has been shut to routine commercial shipping since 30 July and Scott Bessent details his Iran sanctions at 2pm ET Monday. Meanwhile bitcoin’s first back-to-back losing days of the rally have moved the week from +22.89% to +21.10% — and with it, the record it is setting, from best week since March 2023 to best week since February 2024. The boundary is $76,744.29, and it settles tonight.
23/08/2026Six Days That Decide the Rally: Bessent’s Sanctions Monday, July PCE Wednesday, Warsh’s First Jackson Hole Friday
Bitcoin ends the week 22.8% higher and walks straight into the densest macro calendar of the quarter: a Treasury sanctions press conference Monday, the last inflation print before the September FOMC on Wednesday, and Kevin Warsh’s debut Jackson Hole keynote on Friday under a theme that is, for the first time, about payments technology. Day by day, with the markers that settle alongside.
22/08/2026The Coldcard Migration Decision Tree: Which Seeds Are Actually at Risk, and the Exact Steps to Move — Field Guide #28
Three weeks after the largest hardware-wallet exploit on record, Coinkite has published a complete fixed-release matrix across five firmware tracks, plus two exceptions that decide whether your coins were ever at risk: independent dice rolls and a strong BIP-39 passphrase. A decision tree, the version numbers, the seven-step single-device migration, and the six traps that turn a safe migration into a self-inflicted loss.
22/08/2026Markers Saturday: Y2 Passes on Both Legs — and Open Interest Fell Again While Bitcoin Added $9,000
Bitcoin added 22.8% this week. Binance coin-denominated open interest fell 5.7% over the same stretch. Funding never once exceeded the venue baseline. And the retail crowd that entered the week 2.2-to-1 long finished it flat while the largest accounts went 1.96-to-1 long. Six data series, one marker graded, one of our own falsification markers moving further out of reach.
22/08/2026Bessent Promises the “Greatest Coordinated Economic Isolation in the History of the World” on Monday — and Bitcoin Books Its Best Week Since March 2023
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will detail the Iran sanctions package at a Monday press conference, promising a “one-two punch” of blockade plus secondary sanctions. Bitcoin closed Friday at $78,338.03, up 7.27%, and enters the weekend with the strongest week on its chart since March 2023 — and the first weekend since the rally began without an ETF bid underneath it.
22/08/2026The CFTC Just Told Its Staff to Write a Crypto Rulebook Without Congress — Washington’s Crypto Week, Day Five
At the CFTC's first-ever Innovation Advisory Committee meeting, Chairman Michael Selig said the agency will use existing authority to build a crypto-market regime if the CLARITY Act keeps stalling. What that can and cannot do - and the September 15 vote it is meant to pressure.
21/08/2026How to Read a Short Squeeze: Liquidations, Open Interest, Funding Rates and the Four Questions That Tell You If a Rally Is Real
A mechanical framework for the most misread event in crypto markets: four free data series, four questions, six traps - worked through on the August 2026 squeeze that liquidated $2.7 billion of shorts and took bitcoin up 19.68% in a week.
21/08/2026Markers Friday: W1 Passes on Selig’s Ultimatum, U1 Expires Empty — and a 20% Rally the Derivatives Market Didn’t Fund
Three markers close, one settles Saturday night. W1 passes on the CFTC chairman's threat to write a crypto rulebook without Congress; U1 fails on a filing that showed an issuance and no coin sale; X3 passes four times over. And the find: open interest is 2.3% below its pre-rally level after a 19.68% week.
21/08/2026Trump Declares ‘Economic D-Day’ on Iran and the Dow Sheds 704 Points — Then Bitcoin Tops $75,000 for Its Best Week Since 2024
Bitcoin traded as high as $75,785.82 on Friday morning, up 19.68% on the week, after a session in which the Dow fell 703.84 points, Brent topped $94 on Trump's Iran threat and the 30-year backed up to 5.237%. US spot ETFs bought $1.61 billion in four days; $2.7 billion of shorts were liquidated. And open interest is still below where it started.

20/08/2026Markers Thursday: Three Passes in One Tape, the Minutes, the $65K Close, the $40T Debt, and the Difficulty Projection Flips Again
X1 passed on "several participants" favoring a hike, U3 passed nine days early on a $69,334.79 close, Y3 passed on the $40 trillion debt print : and the difficulty projection flipped sign for the second time in five days.

20/08/2026Prediction Markets Got a White House Seat Six Days After Baltimore Sued Them — and the SEC Proposed Its Crypto Rulebook Anyway
At 2:30 p.m. ET today the White House seats Kalshi and Polymarket at a table with the SEC chair, the CFTC chair, the NYSE, Nasdaq, CME Group and the DTCC — six days after Baltimore sued both prediction-market operators for running what it calls unlicensed sports betting. And on Tuesday, five days after cancelling the meeting at which it was to be voted, the SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets anyway, without an open meeting. The guest list is the story, and so is the fact that the rulebook arrived without one.
19/08/2026How to Read the Long End: The 30-Year Treasury, Term Premium, and What It Actually Means for Bitcoin
The 30-year Treasury yield just touched a 19-year high and half of crypto Twitter has decided it knows what that means. It probably does not. This is a field manual for the long end of the yield curve: what a nominal yield is actually made of, how to read a Treasury auction in sixty seconds, the four forces pushing yields up in 2026, the three channels through which any of it reaches bitcoin, and the four traps that catch people who have just learned the phrase “term premium.”
19/08/2026Markers Wednesday: X3 Passed on Both Legs, and the Bond Market Handed Us a Cleaner Divergence Test
X3 asked for one positive ETF session out of two. It got $297.5 million and $189.3 million. U2 held its sign for a second day at +0.37%. U3 came within 0.42% of its bar and missed on the close. X1 cannot be graded until 2:00 p.m. ET today and we are not going to pretend otherwise. And the global long-bond rout gives us a divergence question sharp enough to write a two-legged marker around it.
19/08/2026The World’s Long Bonds Broke a 19-Year Record. Bitcoin Did Not Follow — and ETFs Bought $486.8 Million in Two Days
The 30-year US Treasury yield touched 5.323% on Tuesday, its highest since 2007, as the national debt closed on $40 trillion and the selloff spread to Japan, Germany and France. The S&P 500 fell for a third straight session and the Nasdaq dropped 1.33%. Bitcoin closed up 0.30% at $64,725.42 after touching $65,058.81 — its first tick above $65,000 since August 10 — and US spot ETFs took in $297.5 million and $189.3 million on consecutive days. The Fed publishes its July minutes at 2:00 p.m. ET; the White House seats a crypto roundtable at 2:30.
19/08/2026Strategy Raised $334 Million and Bought Zero Bitcoin — the Equity Lever Is Now the Whole Story
For three consecutive weeks Strategy sold bitcoin to fund its preferred dividends. This week it sold 3.46 million of its own shares for $333.7 million instead, and touched no coins at all. Holdings stand at 840,447 BTC, the dollar reserve at $4.8 billion, and the stock rose 4.99% on the news that the company had diluted its shareholders — at a multiple to net asset value that no longer makes dilution obviously accretive. Here is what actually changed, and what did not.
18/08/2026How to Read the FOMC Minutes: A Bitcoin Investor’s Field Guide
The Fed publishes the minutes of its July meeting at 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, August 19. The statement told you what the Committee decided; the press conference told you how the Chair wanted it framed. The minutes are the only document that tells you who argued what, how many of them there were, and what would have to happen for them to change their minds. Here is how to read all of that in ten minutes, including the two words that carry more information than any number in the release.
18/08/2026Markers Tuesday: the Difficulty Projection Flipped Sign, and R3 Was Right Three Days Late
Three consecutive daily snapshots of the same endpoint at the same hour: −1.63%, −0.28%, +0.49%. The projected difficulty retarget has crossed zero, and marker U2 is now pointing at a pass. Meanwhile R3 — our oil marker, graded FAIL on August 14 with Brent at $88.52 — watched Brent settle at $90.87 on August 17. Right thesis, wrong deadline, and that distinction deserves its own grading category. Plus U1 turns on a filing that showed no coin sale at all, and three new markers go on the board.
18/08/2026Oil Settles Above $90 as the Iran Truce Expires — and Bitcoin Posts Its Best Day in Five Weeks
Brent crude settled at $90.87 on Monday, up 2.7%, after Washington and Tehran both ruled out extending the memorandum of understanding that expired the same day. Israel struck Lebanon. Hormuz traffic fell to three vessels. Against that, and against a New York manufacturing print at a four-year high, bitcoin rallied 2.59% to $64,532 — its largest single-day gain since July 14. The Fed publishes its July minutes on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. ET, half an hour before the White House seats a crypto roundtable.
18/08/2026A Month Past Its Deadline, the GENIUS Act Still Has Zero Final Rules — and a January 2027 Clock Is Now Running
Ten proposed rules. Zero finalised. The GENIUS Act gave regulators one year to write the rulebook for payment stablecoins, that year expired on July 18, 2026, and the deadline passed without a single final rule. The practical consequence is a date: with no final rules to start a 120-day clock, the statute now defaults to taking effect on January 18, 2027 — which lands the whole regime on issuers eleven days before it can plausibly be ready. Eleven days before Jackson Hole devotes itself to payments.
17/08/2026How to Read a Bitcoin Treasury Company’s Weekly 8-K: A Ten-Minute Field Manual
Quarterly earnings tell you what a bitcoin treasury company did three months ago. The weekly 8-K tells you what it did last Tuesday — and in 2026, with Strategy selling coins two weeks running and Metaplanet issuing yen bonds because its shares stopped working as currency, the weekly filing is where the story actually lives. This is a field manual for reading one in ten minutes: the five numbers, the two arithmetic checks, and the four traps that catch people who only read the headline.
17/08/2026Markers Monday: T1 Fails at $62,900, and the Hashrate Refuses to Agree With the Price
T1 fails: the weekly candle closed at $62,900 against a $63,220 bar, the lowest weekly close in seven weeks, and it failed on both of our price sources — a clean grade. But the more interesting number this morning is not the price. In 24 hours the projected difficulty retarget moved from −1.63% to −0.28%, and mempool.space’s daily hashrate estimate printed above one zettahash for the first time on our board. Miners are not behaving like people who think this is a bear market. Three new date-anchored markers go on the board.
17/08/2026Bitcoin Fails the Weekly Close at $62,900 — Its Lowest in Seven Weeks — Then Rallies Into Fed Minutes Week
Bitcoin settled its weekly candle at $62,900 on Sunday night — below the $63,220 line this column had circled, and the lowest weekly close since the week of June 22. Then it did something the bears did not order: it rallied 1.1% overnight to $63,616. The week ahead carries the first full FOMC minutes of the Kevin Warsh era on Wednesday, Strategy’s third consecutive weekly bitcoin-sale filing expected today, and a difficulty retarget that has swung 1.35 points in 24 hours.

August 27–29, Grand Teton National Park: the Kansas City Fed’s annual symposium convenes under the theme “Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy” — the closest the Fed’s marquee event has ever come to a crypto agenda. Kevin Warsh delivers his first Jackson Hole keynote as Fed chair on Friday morning, August 28, with September hike odds in the 30s and a hiking-cycle question unresolved. What the event is, why this theme now, and the three things worth watching.
16/08/2026How Stablecoin Payment Rails Work: A Bitcoin Investor’s Guide to the $314 Billion Plumbing Jackson Hole Will Debate
In eleven days, the Federal Reserve’s marquee annual symposium convenes under the theme “Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy.” Translation: the world’s central bankers are spending their retreat discussing the $314 billion stablecoin complex. This guide explains what a payment rail actually is, how the stablecoin stack works layer by layer, what the GENIUS Act changed, and why Western Union now settles remittances on Solana while Cloudflare mints a dollar for AI agents — plus the five rules for reading rail news as a bitcoin investor without confusing plumbing for price.
16/08/2026Markers Sunday: The $63,220 Close Decides Tonight, Whales Split the Tape, and the Difficulty Clock Turns Negative
The Friday flow print we owed you settles at −$56–58 million — a third straight red day, closing a −$389.7 million week, the worst in six weeks. On-chain, the 10,000-BTC cohort is at a six-month high while a $125 million short leans against it: someone is wrong, and tonight’s weekly close against $63,220 is the first scheduled arbiter. Plus: the next difficulty retarget is projecting negative for the first time in our board’s coverage, and three new T-series markers get written down before the events.
16/08/2026Bitcoin Holds $63,000 Into a Make-or-Break Weekly Close After Its Worst ETF Outflow Week Since June
Bitcoin enters Sunday’s weekly close pinned at $63,000 — almost exactly on the $63,220 line one trader says separates a routine range week from a deeper rout. Behind the flat tape: $389.7 million pulled from US spot ETFs this week, the largest weekly withdrawal in six weeks, a third straight red day on Friday, and an on-chain picture that has whales accumulating and one leveraged player shorting $125 million against them. The quietest Sunday in weeks precedes the loudest ten days of the summer.
16/08/2026MSCI Moves to Push Strategy Out of Its Indexes — Again: Inside the Two-Step Test That Three Companies Already Fail
Ten months after its first attempt collapsed under industry backlash, MSCI is back with a broader weapon: a two-step “non-operating company” screen that — backtested on May 2026 data — would eject Strategy, Metaplanet and uranium holder Yellow Cake from its global indexes. Strategy’s response: “Bitcoin doesn’t need MSCI. Neither does Strategy.” Feedback runs to September 30, results October 16, changes in the November review. What changed, who is exposed, and the marker we are committing.
15/08/2026How to Read the Retail Sales Report as a Bitcoin Investor: The 2026 Guide to the Consumer Number That Moves the Fed
Friday’s retail sales report missed consensus by 0.7 percentage points — the biggest drop since May 2025 — and rate markets repriced within minutes. This guide explains what the Census Bureau’s monthly retail number actually measures, which three lines matter, the traps that catch first-time macro readers, and the transmission chain that connects a shopping report to the bitcoin price. Eighth entry in our macro-series library.
15/08/2026Markers Saturday: The Vote That Never Happened, Q2 Dies at $62,900, and a $300 Million Outflow Week — Grades and New Commitments
Our marker board assumed the SEC would vote Friday. It did not — so S1 and S2 grade VOID, and we replace them with markers that can actually settle. Q2 needed a $65,000 close and got $62,900: FAIL. Retail sales fell 0.6% against a +0.1% consensus — the biggest drop since May 2025 — and bitcoin was the one risk asset that did not care. Full grades, the flow ledger, and three new commitments.
15/08/2026The SEC Canceled Its First Crypto Rulemaking Vote With 18 Hours’ Notice — and Washington’s Crypto Power Center May Be Moving to the CFTC
The SEC scrapped Friday’s scheduled vote on “Regulation Crypto” — its first formal crypto rulemaking — citing an “unforeseen scheduling issue,” with no new date. Five days later the White House hosts crypto executives, and the day after that the CFTC convenes its first Innovation Advisory Committee session, titled “From Uncertainty to Clarity.” Bitcoin sat near $62,900 Saturday. What the cancellation means, and what actually happens next.

14/08/2026Metaplanet Moves 3,881 BTC With Its Treasury $1.4 Billion Underwater — What the Wallet Shuffle Does and Does Not Mean
Japan’s Metaplanet moved 3,881 BTC — roughly $247 million, about 9% of its treasury — out of tracked cold wallets on Wednesday, with no exchange destinations and no company explanation. The move lands with the 43,000 BTC position roughly $1.4 billion underwater against a $96,191 average cost. The March precedent, the treasury-stress context, and the specific on-chain tells that would separate restructuring from distribution.
13/08/2026How to Read the PPI Report as a Bitcoin Investor: The Pipeline-Inflation Guide
The Producer Price Index lands the morning after CPI and most crypto traders ignore it — which is exactly why it moves markets when it surprises. This guide explains what PPI measures, why it front-runs the inflation gauge the Fed actually targets, the five things to check in the 8:30 a.m. release, the traps that catch first-time readers, and a worked example using the July 2026 report released today.
13/08/2026Markers Thursday: The 0.2% That Killed R1, a Failed Flow Test — and Oil Two Dollars From Rewriting the Week
Grading day. R1 — our two-legged CPI/rates marker — died on Wednesday’s 0.2% core print before its second leg ever came up. R2, the ETF flow test, closes at roughly −$38M against a +$400M bar: FAIL, and an honest accounting of what that does (and does not do) to the hidden-seller thesis. R3 is the live one: Brent at $88 against a $90 trigger, with a presidential “total control” claim and an IEA deficit behind it. Full scoreboard before Friday’s public grades.
13/08/2026Bitcoin Holds $63.7K After the In-Line CPI — Now PPI at 8:30 a.m. and Trump’s ‘Total Control’ of Hormuz Test the Range
July CPI landed exactly on consensus — 3.4% headline, 2.5% core — and bitcoin barely moved, holding near $63,700 as of early Thursday. Two new tests arrive today: the July PPI report at 8:30 a.m. ET, and an oil market where Brent sits near $88 after a 12% six-session run while President Trump claims “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz. The numbers, the levels, and what grades on Friday.
13/08/2026SEC Sets Friday Vote on ‘Regulation Crypto’ — the First Formal Crypto Rulemaking of the Atkins Era
With the CLARITY Act parked until September 15, the SEC is moving first: an open meeting this Friday, August 14 at 10 a.m. ET, with one agenda item — proposing a tailored offering regime for crypto investment contracts. It is the first formal crypto rulemaking of Paul Atkins’ chairmanship, the notice landed with unusually short lead time, and the comment-period math makes this a 2027 story for compliance teams.

12/08/2026The Anchor-Tenant Divide: Anthropic’s $9.1 Billion Riot Deal Is Official — and It Splits Bitcoin Mining Into Two Sectors
What Bloomberg reported Monday, both companies confirmed Tuesday: Anthropic signed a 20-year, $9.1 billion lease for 191 MW at Riot’s Rockdale campus, with options taking it to $16.1 billion. RIOT jumped 17–20% on a day bitcoin fell. The sector now divides cleanly into miners with anchor tenants and miners without — and the gap between those two groups is becoming the defining trade of August 2026.
12/08/2026CPI Day: Bitcoin Slips to $63,500 as the Inflation Print That Decides September Arrives at 8:30 a.m.

10/08/2026Markers Monday: BIP-110's Quiet Test Graded (With a Correction), H1 Closes, and Strategy's 8-K Sets Up the Fourth-Week Question
M3 passes 3-for-3 on the main chain, but we log a scope error: a minority BIP-110 branch did mint two blocks before freezing. H1 closes NOT FIRED, Q1 arms for Strategy's 8-K after a 1,030 BTC transfer and a cryptic Saylor post, and R2 needs $298M of ETF inflows in two days.
10/08/2026Bitcoin's Attempted Fork Freezes at Two Blocks: BIP-110 Branch Falls 200+ Behind as BTC Holds $65K Into CPI Week
BIP-110's enforcing branch mined two blocks on Saturday and hasn't produced one since : stuck at Bitcoin's full 127.48T difficulty with ~257 PH/s while the main chain runs 209-for-209 against signaling. Saylor calls it decisive, replay risk remains the practical concern, and BTC holds $65K into CPI week.
