Difficulty Update: Tonight’s Retarget Is Projected at +1.20% After a Projection That Went +1.42 → +0.80 → +0.23 → +1.47 → +1.20 in Five Mornings — Marker D2 Fails and F1 Passes Unless the Last 90 Blocks Average Over Twelve Minutes; Hashrate 987 EH/s on Thursday and 913 on Friday, Fees at 1 sat/vB
Bitcoin’s next difficulty adjustment lands at block 965,664, expected around 21:00 UTC on Saturday 5 September 2026, and mempool.space’s projection at our 06:10 UTC pull was +1.200% with 90 blocks remaining and an average block time of 593.19 seconds for the period. That would take difficulty from 125.81 trillion to about 127.32 trillion, reversing most of the −1.312% cut on 23 August, and it grades two markers set on this retarget: D2, which asked for a landing between −1.50% and 0.00%, fails; F1, which asked for zero or better, passes. We show what the last 90 blocks would have to do to change that, print the five-morning path of the projection, the daily hashrate series (987 EH/s for Thursday, the highest daily reading since Sunday 30 August’s 1,053, and 913 for Friday), the past week’s pool shares, and a fee market at 1 sat/vB.
