US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds finished the week of 19–23 October with provisional net inflows of $301.2 million, according to Farside Investors data published by NewsBTC on 25 October, but the path was rough: $528.4 million flowed in on Wednesday 21 October, then $635.5 million flowed out on Thursday as the Nasdaq fell 2.6% and bitcoin dropped 3.2%, and a preliminary $137.9 million followed on Friday. Thursday was the largest single-day outflow of any session in October, ahead of 7 October’s $487.1 million, in the TFTC daily table. Thursday and Friday together took out $773.5 million (Farside), roughly offsetting the first three days of the week, which brought in $1,074.7 million.

Week+301.2 (Farside, provisional)——Our sum of TFTC Mon–Thu plus Farside Fri: +304.8

Two points on the data. First, the weekly total is provisional: NewsBTC notes that VanEck’s Friday entry showed a dash in Farside’s tables, so the totals may change. Second, TFTC and Farside differ by a few million dollars on some days (Thursday’s −635.5 versus −635.6, for example), which is normal; we show both where they differ. Individual Monday-to-Wednesday figures come from TFTC, since the Farside summary gives only their combined total.

The video above is dated 20 October and covers earlier flows and markets; it does not describe Thursday’s outflow.

TFTC’s running October total was −$174.5 million after Thursday’s session; adding Friday’s preliminary −$137.9 million from Farside gives about −$312 million. That mixes two sources and one preliminary figure, so treat it as an estimate within a few million dollars. Our Tuesday report had the month at about −$67 million before Wednesday’s inflow, so Wednesday’s $528 million lifted it to about +$461 million for one session, and Thursday’s outflow took it back below zero.

Why it matters

A single heavy outflow day is not a trend. October’s daily table shows flows alternating between large inflows and outflows: two $500 million-plus inflows (19 and 21 October), two outflows of $487 million and $635 million (7 and 22 October), and many days under $100 million. The pattern is closer to a market where large holders adjust positions on macro news than to steady buying or selling. On Thursday, IBIT lost $254.1 million and FBTC $217.5 million, so the two largest funds accounted for $471.6 million of the $635.5 million total, with the rest spread across other products. For an explanation of reading these tables see our six-check guide.

Price and flows moved together on Thursday: bitcoin fell from $84,024.67 to $81,307.16, a 3.23% drop, while the IBIT share price closed at $46.06, down from $47.84 on Wednesday (Yahoo Finance). We cannot say which caused which; ETF flows are reported after the close and mostly reflect that day’s trading, so a fall during US hours can trigger redemptions as easily as redemptions can add pressure. The relationship between daily flows and the next day’s price is something we have not tested here.

What to watch

  • Monday 26 October: Farside’s revised Friday figure, including VanEck, and Monday’s flow.
  • Wednesday 28 October: the Fed decision (hold expected at 3.75%–4.00%) and the Microsoft and Alphabet earnings; see our rate-hike probability guide.
  • Thursday 29 October: September PCE inflation (our guide) and Strategy’s third-quarter results after the close.
  • Whether October ends positive: the month needs about +$312 million over the remaining five sessions (26–30 October), a sum that has happened in single sessions this month (526.6 and 528.4) but is not assured.

Method: bitcoin prices, highs, lows and closes are Coinbase Exchange candles (UTC day) pulled by Bitcoin Mastery at about 20:30 UTC on Sunday 25 October 2026; the 25 October candle is still open at that time, so any closing figure quoted is the 24 October close unless stated. Index, stock, gold and oil figures are Yahoo Finance daily data (US closes of Friday 23 October) or the news sources cited. Other third-party figures are attributed to their source and date.
